Disney’s Kinda-Sorta Live Action Remakes
Episode 58
Disney’s recent streak of reimagining its animated classics has been stylish, sometimes transformative, and a bit uncanny. But the films also look a bit like a sign that reads “Just leave your $400 million here, America.”
This week, we’re discussing the remakes that Disney is reanimating in the style of live action, even though CGI is still the dominant tool at work. We begin with the new and relatively faithful Beauty & The Beast remake before looking back at the Glenn Close-starring 101 Dalmatians (at the 20-minute mark). Then at 34 minutes, we examine how last year’s Jungle Book remake tried to have and eat every cake available in the kids’ movie/comic book playbook.
If you’ll notice, we also shortened our name, but little else is different. Follow us on Twitter @bereelpod and subscribe to Be Reel wherever you get your podcasts.

Movie Reviews & Reappraisals
Be Reel is a movie reviewing & reappraising podcast hosted by Chance Solem-Pfeifer and Noah Ballard.
Each time out, we select three movies based around a genre and call up guests ranging from submarine captains to Oscar winners. Then, we rate the movies, weighing both technical quality and entertainment.
Noah and Chance are old friends who mostly respect each other’s opinions. Even though Chance is a fool and a traitor. Find their show presented at ThePlaylist.Net and follow them on Twitter for the latest on Noah’s literary agenting and Chance’s work in the Portland arts scene.
